Our speciality roasted coffee is created for purpose, based on the style of brewing you are most familiar with, or use day to day. However, in this case our roast is purposely crafted as an “all rounder” which can be used for any brew method you prefer!
What's the big difference? Well, our espresso roasts are typically roasted for a longer period of time, at a higher temperature which makes the grind easier to dissolve in less amounts of water as the grinds are more soluble. Perfect for a 1:2 espresso brew.
Filter roasts are typically roasted at lower temperatures for a shorter period of time producing an extremely clear picture of the roast's flavour profiles without being interrupted by the interfering “roast” flavour.
In this case, our all rounders sit somewhere in the middle (but closer to an espresso roast), we’ve been able to roast out the sourness an espresso roast typically has when filter brewed, yet been able to retain the sweetness and cut out the acidity when espresso brewing! Magic, we know!
If you are unsure, grab a sample, or a few samples! Each roast has their own unique blend of flavours and samples are the best way for you to find your perfect roast.
What is the real difference between roasts?
The process of roasting filter vs espresso roasts is completely different and results in a very different end product. Our espresso roasts are roasted for longer & at higher temperatures which produces a sweet and balanced extraction that filters out sourness.
Our filter roasts are roasted at lower temperatures, for a shorter period of time which results in a sweet & clearer extraction allowing you to taste the full flavour profile of the roast. Our filter roasts are not recommended for espresso extraction as they can result in a fairly bitter, sour cup of coffee.
Why doesnt my coffee taste right?
There are 5 main components involved in brewing the perfect cup of coffee:
- Ratio
- Grind
- Temperature
- Time
- Water
Regardless if you are brewing Espresso or Filter methods, changing any of the above variables will result in a different tasting cup of coffee. Check out our blog for a full in depth guide to mastering your perfect brew.
